This summer’s drought condition has significantly increased the demand on the Town’s water system to record levels. Over this past weekend the Town’s system was put to the test when demand for water reached a new production record of 16.7 million gallons on both Saturday and Sunday. The previous production record of 16.1 million gallons was set on August 6, 2006.
The system peak demand rate of 26.6 million gallons per day on Sunday set a new record for instantaneous demand, breaking the previous record of 23.6 million gallons per day. “While the system was designed to anticipate growth and extreme heat conditions, this year’s drought is pushing the water system to its maximum capability” said Tim Overly, Director of Public Utilities. “The Town appreciates the efforts of our customers to help in distributing the demand by having their automatic irrigation systems watering during the early morning hours. These efforts have shifted irrigation demands more to the 4:00 am to 6:00 am time period and can be seen by the morning peak demands running at 18-21 million gallons per day. Town staff would like to encourage customers continue to shift more water usage to the early morning hours, particularly the period from 2:00 am to 6:00 am.”
