GREAT Happy Ending Story
Piper (white one) is doing very well and brings a lot of energy, joy and laughter into the house. She is a smart little girl and is very eager to learn, especially when treats and praise are involved. She is very sweet and cute with my nieces and has warmed up to each of them rather quickly.
As you can see in the attached photos, Piper loves her new big brother, Oxford. As far as I can tell, he's taught her three things so far - how to sit pretty for treats, that human hands are meant to be licked and that yawns are meant to be vocalized (hers are really cute, they sound like little wooo's). Piper's a little wild child on a leash but she does well when she's walking shoulder to shoulder with Oxford. In return, he seems to get all the mental stimulation he needs just by watching her run through the house with her toys.

Bryan Tingley, Troop 56 at Collierville Christian Church. Bryan's eagle scout project was to design and construct a shade system for the front kennels. This was so great! Bryan is here with some of his troop. Thank you to everyone who helped out!

After 3 years, Ollie the cat, is HOME!

When my little black kitty girl Speck walked across the living room floor this afternoon I was reminded how much she looks like Ollie. Ollie went missing in August of 2008. We looked everywhere and tried everything to find him, fighting code enforcement by putting up posters, ads in the paper, Craigslist, Petfinder, and walking the neighborhood for hours on end, and still no sign of him. Needless to say, I was heartbroken.
The phone rang and it was Nancy from Collierville Animal Services. They'd trapped a black declawed male cat, she said, but we both knew it wasn’t him. She knows it would take a miracle to get Ollie back after all these years, but she still calls each time a cat comes in matching his description.
Arriving at the shelter a few minutes later, I looked in the cage. There was a scared black cat looking back at me. “Do you want me to get him out,” asked the volunteer. “No, I’m fine,” I told her. I got him out and to their surprise, he let me hold him. I put him on top of a stack of carriers to pet him and he head butted me, just like Ollie used to do. He would stand on his tip-toes when I scratched his back by his tail, and do a little dance for me. This kitty did the same thing, plus he nipped me when I stopped rubbing him! Could this really be Ollie? Chris, my son, would know. Ollie adored him, so I called. He always told me that Ollie had a tiny bit of white on one of his toes. Nancy took a picture of his foot as I held him and I emailed it to Chris. A few minutes later I got a message, “It’s him!” Knowing in my heart this was Ollie but not needing another cat if it wasn’t, I called Ralph, my husband and told him to get down there right away.
Ralph came in, excited but probably thinking I’d lost my mind. When Ollie nudged him with his head and grabbed his finger with his paw, he knew it was him.
Ollie slept on the bed with us last night, not quite sure what to think of the other cats yet, but he knows, he’s home.
My Ollie is home again, thanks to Nancy for keeping his card for all these years and calling me each time a black cat came in matching his description. Thanks to Suzanne for trapping him while trying to “fix” all the ferals, and Nina, and all of the other wonderful people at Collierville Animal Services.

2011 Success Story - Eli Dear Collierville Animal Shelter, I just wanted to update you on our adoption of Eli, the golden retriever/yellow lab mix. We spent about 6 years looking at dogs and discussing it, and my husband kept going back and forth. He finally agreed after meeting Eli. He was a little nervous about the adoption, but Eli quickly put his nerves to rest! I can’t thank you guys enough for allowing us to bring this magnificent little angel into our home! He has been an absolute joy for all of us. He is so loving, affectionate, gentle, well-behaved, smart, and adorable. We couldn’t have asked God for a better dog. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is a realistic, proactive approach to situations where citizens may be on their own to respond to life-sustaining needs.
The goal of CERT is to offer training and skills that allow citizens to respond effectively without placing themselves in unnecessary danger. Completing CERT training means you will clearly understand how to safely help yourself, your family and your neighborhood when conventional emergency services are not readily available.
