As a member of the National Main Street organization, our town:

• Sunset on the Square was named a top 20 event by the Southeast Tourism Society.

• is a National Main Street Community. This designation recognizes local revitalization programs that have achieved high standards of performance based on the Main Street Four Point Approach to revitalization and preservation.

• earned Honorable Mentions in the 1995 and 1996 Great American Main Street Awards from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, ranking in the top 20 nationally.

• was chosen by Gerald Charles Dickens and his staff for the 1997 U.S. premier performance of A Child's Journey With Dickens.

• received the 1998 prestigious Tennessee Main Street Association Award of Excellence for the Best Special Event in a Tennessee Main Street Community for Dickens on the Square.

• was featured in the June '98 issue of Southern Living.

• received the 1999 Tennessee Main Street Award of Best Recruitment Success Stories for three new businesses on the Square.

• participated in Martha Sundquist's First Lady Tours of Main Street Tennessee in 1999.
